Tales from the Trees

2025 Open Day Pinehurst

Great weather for our Open Day Pinehurst event, with 18 teams enjoying the course & social interaction.

Great to see 2 teams from Lucindale make the effort to play. Thanks for coming guys. They commented that they enjoyed their day.

Bronnie Clarke & Mark Pretty continued their SPGW form, taking out the event with a Gross 71 / Nett 61.

Thanks to K&S for sponsoring the winners prizes today. It is very much appreciated by the club.

It was tight for placings 2nd to 6th with 5 teams finishing with a nett 65.

The rundown was, 2nd mother & son team of Karen & Log, 3rd Cooper & Rob C, 4th Brian P & Bill Mullan, 5th Julie Howe & Scott Clarke & 6th, our new greenkeeper Amos Seamer & Logan Palmer.

The NTP was held on the 9th hole, with Naomi Ferguson claiming the Ladies prize & Alex Wesolowski for the men.

Andrea Pegler out distanced the rest of the ladies’ field to win the Ladies Long Drive.

There was a bit of family rivalry for the Men’s Long Drive, with Cooper taking the early lead. However, he did run from the 6th hole to see if Dad had knocked him off. Dad prevailed.

Unfortunately for Cooper, he backed up his long drive contender on the 4th with a 20m drive on the 5th.

One thing about a Pinehurst round is, you can get your partner to see parts of the course, they would not normally see. This proved to be a truism from the some of the in the comments heard in the clubrooms after the round.

Cooper featured again on the 2nd after putting his drive into the trees, near the right-hand mound. Unable get any loft on the next shot, Rob C “putted” from 45m to end up 2.5m from the hole. Cooper snagged the birdie putt. Easy game.

A couple of unusual big scores for a Pinehurst round were recorded by 2 pairings. Bugg & Alex’s 9 on the 5th and Brian P & Bill M’s 8 on the 4th. Neither team were prepared to divulge the gory details.

A couple of themes emerged from today’s play.

Putting (or lack thereof)

  1. Despite not playing together, both Karen & Spinner managed to miss 6″ putt on the 5th hole.
  2. On the 9th, Naomi left a 12′ putt about 18″ short. Heidi left the next putt 6′” short. Naomi then short putted by 1″. Heidi managed to finish the hole. Proved good entertainment from the clubhouse.

Carts

  1. Suzi’s cart ran out of puff, that required a quick change over.
  2. Don’t know if Scott Clarke had a had bad drive or missed a putt, be he had to limp the last 5 holes home after playing partner Julie H, ran over him with her buggy. Lucky no serious damage & they still managed 5th.

Stef laughingly showed me a comment re: last week’s Tales from the Trees, posted by Muff stating, “he only reads it for Stef’s stories & last week was only stats.” Expecting Stef to give me a “gem” to appease his “fan club”, I was bitterly disappointed, as he didn’t even offer a hint of a story. Maybe next week Muff.

The day concluded with the Adam “Goog Walker NTP shoot-out, entry to which was gained claiming a NTP on the 6th hole, in competition since January 1st.

Ladies went first with Karen MacGregor being the only one with a “greenie” (men or ladies) for the Ladies win.

Brian Pennell, whilst not on the green claimed the men’s prize.

Thanks to Goog for sponsoring the fun challenge.

Have a great week.
