Australia Day – Stroke
With a number of players venturing to Kingston for their annual Australia Day tournament, a smaller a field of 12 contested Beachport’s Stroke round.
The field included visitors David McPherson (Mt Gambier) & Jock Agnew (Penola).
Although not in the competition, a husband & wife from Germany played 16 holes & thoroughly enjoyed the course.
Avid golfers, they travelled 6 hours from their home to attend the 2023 Ryders Cup in Rome. Karen Mac, suggested they play Port Fairy on their way to Melbourne.
A big welcome to all our visitors.
Despite the small field, some good golf was played, with half the field playing to handicap or better. Net scores ranged from 66 to 76. Well done fellas.
Cooper led the pack with the Gross 75 / Net 66. Could have been much better, as he had 3 “horseshoe” putts.
Captain Phil came runner-up with 78 / 67 with Brendan F 3rd, 73 / 68.
NTP on the 9th was visitor David McPherson, whilst Logan received a spot in the Adam “Goog” Walker NTP Challenge on the 6th.
Jock had a bad day with the putter, or his 78 / 73 could a whole lot better.
Captain Phil skied his drive on the 7th to land his ball in the sand piles next to the 4th. Not the ideal position.
However, Logan has to take this week’s positioning prize. Wednesday, his 2nd shot on the 3rd landed in one of the last Norfolk Pines to the right of the fairway. Logan located the ball & preceded to climb the tree to play a stroke, so as not to concede a penalty.
Logan successfully struck the ball, only for it to land in the branch directly below. 2 strokes to get off that branch, to finish the hole with a 9. Good persistence Logan.
The 3rd wasn’t his friend again today, putting his drive into the caravan park. The angry manager started to yell some “strong” advice about safety. The funny thing is the angry manager is Logan’s Dad.
Friday night’s Pizza & Pasta Twilight tea was a great success. The girls in the kitchen do a wonderful job & deserve a thank you from the club & it’s members.
