Sunday 27th October
What a vibrant day around the club.
This morning 17 players (14 adults & 3 Children), 5 teams, contested a 9 hole Ambrose competition.
Winners were Julie Howe, Mandy Reilly, Sharon Jopich & Greg Cook. Great to see Cookie sharing his knowledge & helping some of the newer players with their skills.
It was great to walk into the club before the afternoon comp to find so many people in the club enjoying the social aspects of our great game.
Next Sunday is a 9 Hole Stableford comp. Come along & have some fun.
Today’s afternoon comp was the Matt Chambers / Logan Palmer 2 Ball Ambrose. Thanks to Matt & Logan for sponsoring the day.
Big welcome to Louise & Kevin Cameron (Pt. Fairy), Scott Davey (Balaclava) & Jamie Bellinger (Millicent), thanks for coming & enjoying our course & comradeship.
Also nice to see Mark Wheal, a great sponsor of the club out for a hit.
12 pairs contested the Matt & Logan Trophy with the winners being Chris Carr & Mark Pretty (Gross 67 / Nett 60 3/4). Apparently Carree was sinking putts Mark couldn’t. Well done guys.
When the winners announcement was made, there was a call for Carree to make a speech. Mark’s response, “no, I’ve been listening to him all day.” A classic response, but Carree did go on to say how he did “enjoy the day”.
Mark also won the Open Long Drive.
Runners up with 69 / 63, were Cooper & Log. This, despite the team having to choose the best ball from 2 that were on the tree side of the 15th whilst playing the 12th. Not a good choice but a good recovery.
Third place went to visitors Louise & Kevin Cameron with 69 / 63 1/4.
Vets Long Drive was won by Cookie. Although initially it was thought he’d won the Ladies Long Drive, as there were 2 long drive markers.
A “bladed” 5 iron was good enough to win the NTP by Wakey (John) who was in the last group of the day.
Congrats to Karen MacGregor & Cookie for supporting the club by playing both events (27 holes) for the day.
In the afternoon comp, Karen played with Rowdy who had 2 shanks which made her day seem longer.
Captain Rowdy also used his authority in ruling Mark Wheal could not move his which ball almost up against a tree on the 7th. They had to take this ball due to Mark’s partner (Bug) had a couple of “mis-timed” shots.
Ducky’s 9th tee shot hit the trees on the right about 35m from the tee, only to land 20m from the 8th green on the right-hand side of the 8th fairway. Needless to say, Ducky & Pennell didn’t take his ball.
Stef’s tee shot from the 3rd ended up in the trees, next to the 4th fairway. Recovery shot hit the road & nearly made water. An interesting way to play the 3rd.
To close, a couple of classics.
- After having a chip & putt before play, Ducky took his hat & glove off & went into the clubrooms. Getting ready to tee off, he couldn’t find his glove so pulled out another one. Wasn’t until the 16th hole that Ducky put his hand on top of his hat, only to feel his missing glove on his head, inside his hat. Dah.
- Apparently a member is in the market for a new sand wedge, after an Adolph & a bladed shot from the 16th bunker at Millicent yesterday. Club “slipped” from his grasp, only to hit a fellow players bag. Ping, 2 piece club. Didn’t help after playing from the scrub, a mate said, “if you’d used your sand wedge you might have made the green.” Toche.
Shannon Ash & Wakey won the wheel draw as the board was full.
Vets at Beachport tomorrow.
Have a great week.
