14th July – Stroke
An interesting day on the course today. Some sensational golf played, balanced with some golf the “other” players enjoy talking about.
Firstly, the results.
Another good field of 16 graced the course today in fine conditions, apart from a slight shower, 5 holes from home.
Shannon Ash (Shagger) is starting to benefit from his days on the course, carding an 86 off the beater, for a nett 64. He won’t be playing off 22 for a long time.
Baz S was runner-up with 73/69, which included 3 birdies. Alex Wezza came 3rd with 93/71, giving Dad, Jason a fright, as he’s dreading the day Alex “claims” him off the stick.
Andy Varc’s was NTP on the 18th, which followed his “greenie” on the 17th, to take the 4 units up for grabs. Unfortunately, he only managed pars for his efforts.
Baz S led the birdie count with 3 (2nd, 9th, 11th). 2 to Andy V (5th, 8th – birdie/ferret), Goog W & Log had birds on 10th & 11th respectively.
Greenkeeper, Schultzy also claimed a ferret on the 13th for a bogie.
Jase Wezza played some great golf tee to green early & late in his round. His shots into the 4th & 13th into the green from 160-140m out to within 2-3 m were a joy to watch. Unfortunately, as is the way with golf, he had a couple “indiscretions” which demeaned some of his great play.
Goog redeemed himself on the 8th, coming up 100m short on his drive, but chipped to within 10′. He also saved some money on the 18th. Hitting his putt so hard, it popped up in the air about 30cm when it hit the hole & dropped into the hole. Saved 10 units I believe.
Now for the golf “the others talk about”.
Lucky Jimmy Anderson finished career against the West Indies & not Ducky & Rowdy, who were both able to “raise the bat”.
Ducky’s 2 out of bounds on the 5th (for 10) & a lost ball on the 7th (for 8) were not highlights. Although his “frustration” did provide amusement for the groups playing the nearby holes.
Stef, Jason Wezza & Varc’s, all tried to emulate Baz S’s, “shot into the trees” of last week (see Stef’s photo attached), resulting in unplayable lies.
However, I think Captain Rowdy deserves an honorable mention for his 12 on the 1st. Drive into a puddle (30-40m from the tee), 2nd near the right-hand water hazard, 3rd to the left-hand mound & 4th onto the green. 8 putts (including a 2-stroke penalty for hitting a moving ball), rounded out the hole. This was to compliment 5 putts (4th) & 4 putts (8th). Always next week Rowdy.
Rowdy is probably regretting denying Baz S’s plea to play Stableford, not Stroke.
Have a good week.
