At the annual SA Golf Industry Awards, Lyal (Spinner) MacGregor was awarded the “Country Volunteer of the Year”. The award was given to a volunteer who has made significant contributions to either administration, turf management, membership, junior development or regional development. There were 7 nominations.
Spinner was recognized for his service to the club since the 1990’s in administration at both club & regional level, his leadership & support of junior coaching & development, his willingness to undertake the many maintenance jobs necessary & his leadership knowledge in relation to developing & maintaining the Beachport Golf Course.
In 2022, Spinner, Project Managed the installation of the irrigation system, 1st tee block redevelopment, warm up net installation & new mounding around the course.
This entailed liaising & coordinating, suppliers, contractors & volunteers, whilst doing much of the work himself.
Whilst accepting the individual award, Spinner acknowledged that he was accepting the award on behalf of all the volunteers who have helped him throughout the years.
